Thor

Anyone planning to see the new Thor movie this weekend? I’m a huge fan of Norse mythology, and I’ve been happy with most of the Marvel movies, so for me the decision was a no-brainer. But add eye-candy in the form of Chris Hemsworth (who did an awesome job as George Kirk in the Star Trek movie of 2010) and you’ve made my day.

If you’re a writer and a parent, or a reader who just wants to get to know your favorite authors a little better, check out the MamaWriters  Community.  One of the co-founders is my fellow Golden Heart finalist/winner, Kris Kennedy. The blog topics are terrifically relevant (they recently published an awesome article on breast cancer check-ups), and they host a variety of romance authors. Including yours truly. I’m over there today, talking about Single Authorhood–being a writer and a single parent.

If you get the chance, please stop by.

Okay…perhaps that’s a slight exaggeration. :-) But I’m definitely out and about the blogosphere this week and next to celebrate the release of Bound by Darkness…which is tomorrow. Yay!! I like to see familiar faces when I’m guest blogging, so please stop by if you have the chance.

Today’s stop is Lynda Hilburn’s Paranormality Universe.

Lynda writes the acclaimed vampire shrink novels. I hope you’ll check them out. Here’s what Romance Junkies said: “In a genre full of vampire stories, it’s hard to imagine that there’s a twist on the old theme you haven’t read. So when you come across one, it’s always a delight. THE VAMPIRE SHRINK was such a treat to read. I was ensnared from the get go and didn’t want it to end.”

Olympics

Feb 15 2010

Quite likely because the Olympics are being held in my home country, I’ve found myself watching a lot of TV the past few days. And I’m loving it. I’m a patriot, albeit a quiet one, and there is nothing more stirring than watching an athlete pour their heart and soul into a race, make a great showing, and then claim they did it for their country.

The joy on any athlete’s face as they do especially well pulls a wild cheer from my lips–not just for Canadians. My daughter shushed me the other day saying, “They can’t hear you, mom.” :-)

It’s still early days, with lots of events to come. I’m hoping to catch live coverage as much as I can. Anyone else watching?

Well, I managed to get all the parcels out to friends and relatives that live ‘away’. Yay! I even plowed my way through the snowstorm today to get the last one done. Now all I have to do is finish the shopping for those closer to home and start my Christmas baking. Ack! Where does the time go?

Nanowrimo

Dec 3 2009

I owe you an update on my experience with Nanowrimo, and here it is: Nanowrimo kicked my butt. Despite all my preparation, I only got 16,954 words done. No where near the 50, 000 I was aiming for.  I’m sure I could come up with a dozen excuses if I tried, but I won’t bother. I missed the goal post by a country mile. Enough said.

The truth is, I’m a slow writer. Despite my burning desire not to edit as I went, I couldn’t resist. It’s important for me to have certain things right before I move onto the next section, and that takes the wind out of my sails. I’m happy with what I produced, though, and I’ve got enough momemtum to keep the story flowing. I should be fine now until I reach the halfway point,  when I typically stop to wonder ‘what the heck was I thinking?’ :-)
