I'm off to Reno, along with 2100 other women and men (though the fellows are a little out-numbered) for the 2005 RWA National conference. I'm looking forward to the trip, even though my To-Do list is still incredibly long *g*.
I'd like to take this moment to wish all my fellow finalists in the Golden Heart the best of luck. A talented and generous group of writers, all. I'm up against some pretty stiff competition in the Long Historical category, and truthfully, I don't believe I'll walk away with the prize. But it's been a great honor just to be named to the same group as these fantastic writers and I genuinely feel I've already won.
I'll be taking plenty of pictures while I'm down there, and I'll post a few as soon as I can.

Amazing. Two weeks from today, I'll be in Reno, Nevada attending the 2005 RWA National Conference. I went last year, too, but this year is definitely special. For one, it's the RWA's 25th anniversary. For another, I'm a Golden Heart finalist in the Long Historical category. For those of you who don't know, the Golden Heart is the RWA's prestigious contest for unpublished writers.
Last year, when I went to the conference in Dallas, I pretty much did my own thing, marched to my own beat. This year I've got parties and receptions and drat, pressure. Not that I'm frantic about winning. I'm so not. I actually think just finaling is a thrill beyond belief. But being in the last stage of the contest brings a certain degree of angst. I'm also pitching to an editor and an agent--an incredible benefit of being a finalist. Normally, appointments are very difficult to get.
I haven't thought too much about the conference until now, but I'm starting to get excited.
