A fellow writer on one of my loops sent a link to to this delightful news article,
Romantic Novelist Celebrates 100 years. (Okay, the part where they label her novels as 'bodice-rippers' isn't so nice, but the story is, I swear). JK Rowling is perhaps one of the more famous single-mother authors, but here's a woman who raised her son over the course of two world wars by writing romance novels.
130 of them, apparently.
How awesome is that? She published under both her own name, Jean S. MacLeod, and under the pseudonym Catherine Airlie. Here's a cover from one of her many books:
I don't know about you, but that pic brings back many a memory from my early days as a reader--my mom bought Harlequins by the boatload and I read every single one.
If you want to check out Jean's backlist, visit her pages on RomanceWiki:
Jean S. MacLeod and
Catherine Airlie.
One of her novels,
Doctor Overboard, is even mentioned in
this Romantic Times article on the theme of Doctors and Nurses.
