So Far, So Good

My current manuscript is going well. I love the characters, and the storyline is coming together really well. I know this phase won't last forever, that a little further on it'll get tougher to find the right words, but right now, it's all good.

This week, as an experiment, I pulled out the first book I ever wrote and sat down to read it. I wasn't looking for all the ways my writing has improved (which it definitely has), I was looking for the elements I did well. It was kind of neat to see how I pinpointed certain details, developed characters, and played out action scenes. All areas I've honed, but were strong even then. Do you ever go back and re-read old manuscripts? Learn anything?
