It's been a hectic couple of days ... but all good. The trip to Atlanta was uneventful, which of course is the best kind of trip. I met up with a group of writers from the Toronto chapter on the way and made some new friends. I also renewed an acquaintance with one of my fellow WildCards (2005 Golden Heart Finalists) who happened to be traveling at the same time--a real treat.
Nothing much is happening on the Tuesday, as most conference attendees arrive on Wednesday. But it was nice to register without the long line-ups, have a leisurely dinner and relax.
Wednesday, for me, was mostly occupied by the Chapter President's Retreat. The speaker was an expert on non-profit organizations and the session was truly insightful. I learned a lot. Wednesday evening was the Literacy booksigning event. I regret that when I post photos on my return, I won't have one of this event...my camera batteries chose that time to die. It's a sight to see. 450 plus authors spread across an entire ballroom, woven with the hundreds of fans seeking autographs, can be a bit overwhelming. But huge fun, too!
Wednesday night, I attended the Gathering, a party hosted by the Futuristic, Fantasy and Paranormal chapter of the RWA. The chocolates were delicious and they had a great panel of agents and editors speak on the state of the paranormal market (still going strong!) and their business.
Thursday morning I attended the PRO Retreat where they had a fantastic line-up of speakers, including the wonderful and always funny Jenny Crusie and the goddess of romance writing, Nora Roberts.
Thursday afternoon, I met with my fellow WildCards for a couple of drinks, and then attended the Golden Network Reception to watch 26 women celebrate their sales! Absolutely terrific to see so many beaming faces, and feel the next sale could be mine.
I'll blog again later. Today is really my first full day of workshops, and later this afternoon, I'll be pitching. Wish me luck!
